Using GP34 to Document Blood Collection Tube Performance in Your Lab
Venous and capillary blood collection tubes are used to collect patient blood samples that are analyzed on highly sensitive clinical instrumentation. It is critical for accurate and precise test results that these collection devices be verified for use on instrumentation. Today, accrediting organizations are challenging clinical laboratories to ensure the acceptability or compatibility of their venous and capillary blood collection devices with their current instrumentation and patient population to ensure accurate and precise test results for their collection devices and test system. This program will review guidelines for conducting verification and validation testing for venous and capillary blood collection tubes.
At the conclusion of this program, the participant will be able to
- Identify preanalytical considerations related to validation and verification of blood collection devices.
- Describe the process for planning, designing, and conducting a clinical evaluation.
- Assess the acceptability/compatibility of clinical performance in chemistry, immunochemistry,
hematology, and coagulation.
