JAMT graciously extended an invitation for IFBLS to hold the Council Meeting in Japan and we were pleased to combine the Council meetings with the Annual Chief Delegates meeting which took place November 20th - 22nd, 2009. There was representation from Canada, Croatia, India (AIIMT), Japan, Kenya, Malaysia, Norway, Singapore, Sweden, Taiwan (TAMT & TSML) and the United States. We would like to thank the Chief Delegates who attended for their hard work. |

The World Federation of Public Health Associations is an international, nongovernmental, multi-professional and civil society organization bringing together public health professionals interested and active in safeguarding and promoting the public’s health through professional exchange, collaboration, and action. WFPHA will be launching their new office in Geneva on October 14th. |

This month sees the publication of the first edition of the revamped WHO Patient Safety newsletter which we hope will be an informative and useful resource. This quarterly publication will feature a guest editorial, a regular column from our Chair, Sir Liam Donaldson, and news items about patient safety. This month we focus on patient safety education and the need to address both culture and evidence-based practice with a guest piece by Professor Peter Pronovost at John Hopkins University. Report from Global Consultation: The Contribution of Health Professions to Primary Health Care and the Global Health Agenda
Approximately 40 NGO’s met in Geneva together with representatives for WHO to discuss the future of primary health care in a global and long term perspective. This meeting was decided on at the 124th Executive Board of WHO held in January 2009. The purpose of the meeting is to provide a forum for a broad spectrum of health professions to network, discuss global health challenges and identify synergies to foster collaborative efforts, work across professional boundaries and conventions to support a primary healthcare approach to reducing health inequities and improving the health of populations. This emanates from the report Primary Health Care - now more than ever. |
