ADA Endorses Non-Fasting A1C Blood Test Print

The Louisville Courier-Journal (2/18, Carter) reported that while "doctors still have the option of using the oral glucose tolerance test, known as the OGTT, and fasting plasma glucose, or FPG," the "American Diabetes Association has given a thumbs-up to diagnosing adults with the A1C blood test, which doesn't require fasting." According to the Courier-Journal, "endorsing A1C for diagnosis is aimed at getting more people tested, so they can receive proper treatment and -- under the best circumstances -- avoid complications."
